Our Values
Guided by truth, community, and lived experience
At the heart of our mission is a deep commitment to truth and collective action.
Our values guide everything we do and are the reason why we advocate for the rights of Australian Korean adoptees.
Our work is grounded in lived experience and community to ensure that we are working ethically and responsibly with those
we represent.
-
We are committed to holding the Australian Federal and State governments accountable for their role in illicit and illegal Korean adoptions to Australia that impact over 3,600 of us, and possibly 10,000 Australian intercountry adoptees who were processed within the same departments.
-
We advocate for the Australian Korean adoptee community voice to be heard and centred within both Federal and State governments. We are here to listen, to learn, to do the work and to amplify our collective voice.
-
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission report, which confirms the violation of our human rights, affects every Korean adoptee worldwide. We believe in working collaboratively with Korean adoptee organisations as a collective movement for truth and accountability.
-
We recognise that each Korean adoptee’s journey is unique and respect the autonomy of every individual at different stages of this journey in a way that is right for them. We support informed choices and will work to respect the collective needs of our community.
-
True healing is not possible without justice. While many of the harms of Korean adoption began in the past, they continue to shape our lives and families today. Reconciliation is essential—not only to ensure these violations are never repeated, but so the deep wounds caused by illegal adoptions can begin to heal.
